Teppala Kodanda Rao

Born in 1979, in Andhra Pradesh, Kodanda Rao received a BFA in Vizag before studying for his MFA in Baroda. The third of five children, Rao used to paint festive patterns on walls for weddings in his village. His accumulated savings earned him an entry into the prestigious art school, the Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara. His paintings are primarily landscapes, which include architectural details and anonymous populations. To Rao, the crowd is a volatile organism that can morph into anything. Often, history is shaped by the collective force of individual wills. Rao has participated in several exhibitions all over India and also in Singapore and Japan. He is also the recipient of several awards.

Pushpakaran Kadappath

Pushpakaran belongs to Velur, near Thrissur in Kerala and has completed his MFA in painting. He has been awarded the Pollock-Krasner foundation fellowship New York, USA in 2014 and the Lalit Kala Akademi Research Grant in 2011. Growing up in a village where his people worshipped folk gods, legendary tales became his foreground of expression via black Indian ink. Most of his black ink depictions have elements of magical realism and absurdity and he uses timeworn tales to attempt a dialogue with the viewer. He has had several solo and group shows in Kerala, Bangalore, Chennai, Egypt and the USA.

Raviram VR

Born in Chennai in 1973, the self-taught sculptor also trained briefly and worked under his uncle Late P.V.Janakiraman, the noted sculptor. Hailing from the rich native roots of Tamilnadu, Raviram’s inherent style was imbibed from the southern architecture, with its surfaces decorated with narrative stone reliefs, iconic sculptures, and ornamental metal reliefs. For him, sculpture was a fundamental way to express and to articulate his individual needs. From the beginning of his career, Raviram introduced virtually everything into his works including mythological deities, tribal folks, interesting human forms, natural landscapes into his copper fantasies. Although unable to speak or hear, he brings his unspoken words alive on welded copper brass sheets and wires. He has had several exhibitions in Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Bhopal, Kochi and New Delhi. He has also won the State Award in 2000-2001.

Sunil Lohar

Sunil Lohar was born in 1983, at Gulbarga, Karnataka. He has completed his MFA in Painting from Hyderabad Central University and (PhD) in Exact Humanities from IIIT Hyderabad. Sunil has been the recipient of the prestigious Karnataka Lalita Kala and Bodhi National Award, India and National Scholarship from HRD Ministry, Government of India. He has been actively showcasing his works both in India and foreign countries and has had shows in Gujarat, Hyderabad, Tamilnadu, Mumbai, Bangalore, Dubai and South Africa. In his paintings, his human forms appear more like the missing link between the monkey and the man, even though they are clothed in modern costumes. His childhood memories are reflected through toys. After treating the canvas with a single colour at first, he builds the surface with other vibrant colors. However, the skeletal faces or the hairy monkey-like faces lend a surrealistic quality to the visuals. In 2007, Sunil won the Bodhi Art Award, Mumbai; and in 2016, the Karnataka Lalita Kala Academy Award.
